What counts as spacious
There is no single spec, but the homes that feel spacious share a few things: an open floor plan that lets rooms flow together, ceilings that give a room presence, and a layout that does not waste a single foot on hallways you cannot use. Some homes get it from square footage, others from smart design, and the best ones get it from both.
The Arizona tour checklist
- Room dimensions, not just total square footage: measure the rooms you will actually live in.
- Lot size and outdoor space: can you picture a patio, a garden, or room for the kids to run?
- Natural light: east and south windows do the heavy lifting in a desert home.
- Closet, pantry, and built-in storage: the stuff has to live somewhere.
- HOA rules: some communities are relaxed, some are strict. Read the covenants, not the brochure.
- Parking and driveway fit for your household: does the driveway and street parking work for everyone?
Where the inventory lives
In the Phoenix metro, the biggest concentration of roomy floor plans and wide lots is in the West Valley, especially Buckeye, Surprise, and North Peoria. The Southeast Valley answers with wide-open communities in Queen Creek and San Tan Valley, and the North Valley brings acreage living in Cave Creek, Desert Hills, and New River.
